About me

I’m Michelle, an experienced English tutor specialising in one-to-one online lessons for adults. I’ve been teaching English since 2005, working with students from a wide range of countries, backgrounds and professions. I speak Italian, French, and Japanese at an intermediate level.

My approach

My lessons are relaxed, focused and tailored to the individual. I want you to feel comfortable speaking English while also making measurable progress. We can work on whatever matters most to you, from everyday conversation to professional communication and academic English.

I enjoy using films, literature, current topics and cultural subjects as a starting point for discussion and language development.

Experience

I’ve taught English full-time since 2013 and have worked with learners at all levels, from beginners to advanced students. I hold the Trinity TESOL qualification and DELTA Module One.

My academic background is in English and linguistics, with a particular focus on discourse analysis. I have a sustained interest in educational research and the psychology of learning. Philosophy, mythology, and narratology are other passions. I have a professional qualification as a legal secretary.

I taught language arts at a prestigious junior high school and have experience supporting learners with special educational needs. I worked in hospitality for fifteen years: at London’s top events and in Cornwall as an event manager. While I was at university, I sold fine art at a seaside gallery. All the photography on this page is my own.

Who I teach

I mainly work with adults who want to become more confident and effective English users – whether for work, university, travel, or simply because they want to communicate more comfortably in English.
